Artfire Monday

Our celebration of crochet continues this week with some Artfire selections.

Crochet is definitely a must for any baby. It is comfortable, warm, and can serve a variety of purposes. This adorable little baby hat says "girl with attitude" in mocha and pink.

Proof that crochet lends itself well to a variety of mixed media. This beautiful necklace is hand crocheted with beads added every few inches and a matching pendant.

Crocheted toys are fun and cute. I have made teddy bears and many other toys from crochet, but this is just soooo sweet. This little turtle begs to be taken home and added to a child's warm embrace. (Okay, there WAS a turtle there, but I'm assuming it was sold after this posting went through as the picture disappeared and the little guy is no longer on the studio! So subbing with this equally adorable little kiwi koala bear.)

Did you know that plastic bags can be recycled into crochetable yarn to make all sorts of handy home goodies? This bag is made of plarn (plastic yarn) and crocheted into a handy tote, complete with flower motif. Plarn is reusable and helps save the environment.

Many people associate crochet with granny squares and afghans. However, in recent years people have taken a new approach to crochet and the versatility that it lends to garments and much more. Take a look at this halter sweater and see if I'm not right! The details are fantastic with a lot of activity. Not your grandma's sweater.

Hopefully I've opened your eyes to the beauty of crochet and all it can do today. I hope you take a look at these artisan's shops and check out what else they have to offer. I can't post everything on here, but I try to give you a glimpse into what they can do. Don't forget that it is always possible to pick up a new skill, too. There are a lot of patterns available online for new or experienced crocheters to check out. Also, for a walk on the daring, check out my studio FantasyDreamKnits on Artfire.
